The post of inspector belongs to police department as well as in industries in quality control department. Both the places use the post of inspector in a number of departments. However, there is a difference. In the police department, the post of inspector follows a different hierarchy than that in the quality control department. However, both the ranks are equally important and pay out good salary and benefits. In many rural areas the police inspectors usually (but not necessarily) have jurisdiction over a number of police stations (usually under the police Sub Inspector). Since the Inspector is in charge of a police circle (consisting of one or more police stations) she/he can also be referred as the circle inspector.
